new memory chip doesn't work in D-395

I lost my xd card that came with the camera so i went out and bought a xd olypus M512mb card. When i put it in the camera it gave me a "card error" message, and i can't do anything with the camera. Is the M in M512 mean its a newer format and doesn't work with my camera if so what does?

check the olympus site - www.olympusamerica.com for a master list of compatibility - I think the 395 is NOT compatible with the M.
