OK, I know I read some of the comments about why can't we have the SD900features with IS, but I guess we can't.
I am preordering ONE of them and keep coming back to the SD 800 IS. But then I ask if I'm missing something with the SD900.
Here's what I see;
SD 800 IS
has a wide angle 28mm- 105mm lens with UA technology (some say the UA is soft, what does that mean?)
7.1 megapix, 3.8 zoom, Digic III, iso 1600 and is stainless teel (would go well with most kitchens), 2.5 LCD, 17 shooting modes, $399
SD 900 (some differences)
No IS, 37mm - 111mm lens (UA unknown, is it better if it's not UA), 10 mega (Not needed, as I don't print posters, etc., better LCD, 17 shooting modes with ISO 3200 one of them, made of titanium (so it can stand the pressures of being used in outer space) $499
My intellegence says go with the SD 800, but I keep wondering if I'm missing something by not getting the SD 900.
My needs are basically outside shots, multiple thinks from people to flowers to landscapes to building, etc.
Would you folks share your thoughts if you were choosing......:o

What would you shoot with that wide lens? I find myself cropping stuff out of my images a wide lens just puts more stuff into them.
IS is good if you have more zoom about 140-150mm is about the limit for me. Since the 900 has a higher ISO that will help with shake because you can run a faster shutter.
Its your call the MP isnt that important to me. Ide rather have higher ISO speeds then the MP.

That is an interesting perspective!!
I really think there must be a reason the SD 900 is their flagship. That may be one of them.
More thoughts?

I'd really like to hear more opinions.....
I've preordered both the SD 800 and 900 and keep wondering why the 900 may be better. I've seen say something about "IQ" and better pictures, etc.
Thoughts?

Manufacturers sell cars by horsepower and cameras by megapixels, even though most people will never use anywhere close to the maximum. Everyone else has 10MP cameras, Canon needed one as well. I think the SD800 looks like a much more practical and useful camera.
(Looking whistfully at my SD300 which now seems old and sad)

Most of those SD cameras really suprise me with their quality, if you go to the dpchallenge forums (http://www.dpchallenge.com/forum.php) there are lists of people who use the SD cameras and they have some of the entrys they have submit and some of them are just stunning but i cant get past the battery pack and the fact the flash on those are so small.
Its your money though, if you like em get one. Im sure you will be happy with it.

I would love to have wide angle on an ultracompact. its great for landscapes and parties =) IS is good even if u have only 3x zoom, that is if u take videos =) no more getting motion sick =D about the High ISO on the 900, its attractive, but is it gonna be good quality at that ISO level? we'll see when reviews come out i guess..
as for MP, i definitely agree, MPs are overrated.. id also have great, quality high ISO than high MP too
