Just caught these early Sunday morning. Looks like the spiders had been busy overnight & the early morning dew & hazy sun just picked the webs out.

Had to use the zoom to get closer to these on the edge of our garden. Breeze was a big problem.

Less zoom now & a different web. Just thought the dew on this looked like a string of pearls.

Final close up of dew drops on the web. Hope you like the sequence - sometimes it is worth getting up early!

I originally posted this in the insect thread but this seems more appropriate so I will repost.

Phill, your macro of the dewdrops on the web is a really nice shot.

Nice to see that I'm not the only weirdo that takes web shots;) Thanks for joining in guys & thanks for the kind words Paul. I did get a lot of shots that were just plain awfull but that's just the advantage of digital and I was hand holding them all. I was pleased with the macro shot too especially as when I looked carefully I could actually see the image of the hedge behind the web in the dew drops. I cropped one of the shots down to about a quarter of the original area see below. It shows up the background noise a bit more as I didn't do any NR on it but I was suprised how well it held up. These drops must have been much less than a milimeter across I should think.

Nice shots, Phill. We have lots of webs like that in the mountain behind my house, but unfortunately, I don't get up early enough to catch them!

Thanks Norm your kind words are much appreciated. I'm no morning person either, these shots weren't taken very early & I only had to go a few yards into the garden. ;)

Not as sharp as Phill's 'cause the wind was up, but I thought they were pretty.

Beautiful, Adam. I want to take a similar picture, but no spiderwebs to be found ... :(

Thanks, Tori. I used a spay bottle to get the drops. For when you find some webs, I've learned that you need to use manual focus because the web strands are too fine for autofocus to find. Also, the spay bottle trick makes it easier to focus, but be careful--you can easily trash the web with overzealous spraying!

Caught this web with frost on it. It was very difficult to focus on with a slight breeze and the light was poor as it was a misty morning. Should have gone to get my tripod but it was just too cold to mess about so hand held this is the best I could get.

When looking a bit closer what I thought was poor focus was more the fact that the water droplets had frozen and were no longer round in the middle of the web. Here's a crop to show what I mean.

Must get a macro lens for this sort of thing.

This is a cool idea for a thread Phill. I didn't know it existed. A frosty web would be great. It's never cold enough during the day where I live though. Here's my effort from a few months back. You may have seen it in another thread.

Nice shot Lukas, good angle and the B&W works well for webs. This thread hadn't seen any posts for quite a while so I posted my latest shots here rather than using the general threads. I'm sure I could have got the frost crystals looking better if the light had been better. Maybe tomorrow as it's going to be -5 degrees C tonight here and clear so it ought to be a good frost. Lets hope the spiders survive.

Here are a few I took in our back yard, busy little eight legged friend spending quite some time constructing a new web, taken with my 350D & EF-S60mm macro, no fill flash & hand-held

Nice shots Steve. It's amaizing how they hang on to that fine thread in mid air like that.

Thanks Phill, I like your frosty webs as well, must try that myself when I feel brave enough to venture outside in minus temperatures:)
Happy New Year to you and yours

Wow, PhillD, you are and expert spiderweb shooter. I didn't even know this thread existed.

Happy New Year to you & the family Steve. Sorry for the late reply I hadn't noticed there were more posts in here until today. There hasn't been any decent webs or frost actually since I took that last shot despight the cold weather. So have not done any more.

Raven you are too kind, thanks for the encouragement. There is just something about the delicate nature the symmetry and the engineering genious of spider webs I find fascinating. Oh plus no one else in the family likes spiders so if I go to shoot some webs I get left alone ;)

Not so much of a spider web, but the spider in the making of one. Rebel XTI on full auto mode.

Spider that spun a web by my grill. Haven't gotten the knack of the macro lenses yet.

It's been forever since this thread had anything new. Here's one that looks like a dream catcher.
