I'm not 100% certain that this is authentic, but sources indicate that Canon will roll out 2 new SD models in October (or sometime soon).

SD800 IS

Take an SD700 IS and stick in a 7 MP sensor. $499.

SD900

Take an SD600 and stick in a 10 MP sensor. $399.

Don't shoot the messenger. I'm not impressed by the Megapixel trend, but this is just the news. ;)

If you are interested in the SD series, my advice is to go for the SD700 IS which can be had for around $360 right now.

You are right about those new models but the SD900 is an SD550 replacement and the prices are switched: it's $399 for SD800 and $499 for SD900. They have more than just a MP increase: They use the new DIGIC III, have higher ISO, face detection, safety zoom and Digital Tele-converter, widescreen 16:9 ratio, 3x2 composition guide, and a new My Category feature. Also, the SD40 is new.

I take my kid to the local aquarium all the time and it's way too dark and way too blue in there. I assume that this mode adjusts for that. Cool. :cool:

SD900 = 1/1.8"
SD800IS = 1/2.5"

Got that from dpreview.

The 710 is the only camera they have out that i like right now. It looks great and is still small with some lens options. Would of been nice to see it with the 1600 ISO but everything else its god is great.

In addition to needing a replacement for my 'workhorse' (S2 IS) - which is probably going to be either a Panasonic FZ50 or a Fuji S9100 or S6500fd (but... can't... buy... xD cards... must... resist... ;) ), I also want to [finally] get a truly pocketable camera that I can take everywhere. Low light and small size are the priority for me. I love the AA batteries and add-on lenses for the A710, but I just think I would end up leaving it at home more often than the SD800. And I really wasn't joking about the Aquarium mode on the SD800! :rolleyes: I could really use that! And finally, the SD700IS that the 800 is replacing got some great reviews - particularly with regard to the low-light abilities. I know that they are now squeezing the absolute maximum number of pixels out of that 1/2.5" sensor, but hopefully it (the SD800) will retain some of the low-light ability of it's parent (SD700). The SD800's wide-angle (28mm) capability is the icing on the cake for me. But, that's just me... different strokes for different folks. :D

The A series has never been a size issue for me. I carry a hip pack that is about as big as a purse so im use to lugging around junk. Keys, phone hip pack so a decent camera i dont mind. The 6X and iS is what i like. Would be nice to run 200 and 400 iso a little more.

Does the SD use AA batteries?

Does the SD use AA batteries?Nope. They use smallish proprietary ones.

Does the SD use AA batteries?

No, because AA batteries are thicker or nearly thicker than the camera itself.

They make tripple A also that are not that big. It seems like a bad thing to go to a pack.

Packs have never been reliable and i hate not knowing whats in the pack. Thermal fuses?

Is the new canon packs a current mah ratting?

You know why no cameras (to my knowledge) use AAA's? Because they don't deliver sufficient juice or capacity to power a camera. :)
