Remote Flash Compatibility

Hi everyone, went out with my uncle last weekend and he had a Remote Flash unit which triggers two slave flashes on tripods at different angles on the subject. I have an E-500 and was wondering if a remote flash unit such as the Nikon SU800 would be compatible? My camera and the unit both have TTL but I dont know if it would work or not - should I buy one and give it ago and if not send it back?
