I buy quite a bit thru Amazon and wouldn't hesitate for a moment to buy the D50 from them.

Pricewise they are the same as B&H both with the body only and with the kit lens. Additionally, Amazon has the camera in stock, B&H doesn't have either in stock, but does have a used D50 at $449.

I recently spoke with a rep who said that Nikon isn't promising anymore delivery dates for the D50 thru the end of the year so if you have your heart set on that model just realize that there is a good chance they will become increasingly difficult to find. (And there is also a possibilty that Nikon won't be shipping any more of them and will start shipping a replacement)

There are people who can give you better advice than me on this but a few I'd consider instead of the kit 18-70 f/3.5-4.5

Nikon 18-200 f/3.5-5.6 VR
Nikon 28-70 f/2.8
Sigma 18-125 (Ed Michaels on the board has a 2nd he is trying to sell cheap)

It's really hard for anyone to suggest a lens rather than pointing out specific other lenses to consider without knowing what you'll be shooting.

yea - amazon is good as long as you are buying through amazon. What I mean by this is you can also choose to buy "used and new" products from other people (similar to ebay). While amazon will most likely help you out if you get screwed, the risk is much less if you purchase directly from them or one of their linked merchants (see picture below). I have purchaed a few things off of the amazon site and have never had a problem.

I can't comment on whether their price is good for the camera you want, but I buy shed loads of stuff through Amazon and have never had problem either with delivery, or returning things. They are without doubt my favourite online shopping hub :)
