Because the way you do it, the lines in the pictures are edgy.

I think he may mean Jeff's review galleries... And to be honest, the Xnview doesn't do a much better job either, while making the file size bigger... Not worth the trouble for using some obsure program I'd say :p .

have you looked at both? How can you say it doesnt make a better job?

While I agree that it definitely does a better job of smoothing out the lines, I would say that it really isn't necessary as the reduced photos are just for display purposes. Anyone who really wants to judge the camera quailty should be looking at the full size version of the picture, which Jeff always has a link to. In addition, the software program could be conceived as post processing the image while resizing it. This would cause problems as the pictures taken are supposed to be "as is" directly out of the camera.

I could really care less about the quality of a thumbnail or super scaled image....at least when it has a link to full rez. It's only if someone is showing me a pic to show me a pic that I don't like seeing something compressed to snot.

I don't realy think that jaggies are that important in the 800x previews. Those resized ones are more intended to show lens 'problems' like barrel distortion, fish-eye effects, ...
