Well, I tried to hold out until I got home but found a good deal so I went ahead and ordered my XTi. Should have it in a few days or so. It was the kit so i'm gonna play around with that lens for a few days before spending more money on better ones. It's my first DSLR so I have a bit of learning to do and hopefully can get some good tips and pointers when I finally get it in. If anyone is looking at getting one I put a post in the hot deals section about a 10% discount at CC.

Lucky bugger:D
I have a 350D with the kit lens and I would stick with that for a while if I were you, atleast until you get the hang of the body. they are not the best lens but they arecertainly capable of taking a worthy shot or two and they surely will make you work harder at mastering the camera itself

well I wouldn't call me lucky yet. It's still being shipped to me and I need to make it home to get it. Can't wait to start taking some pics though. I've also gotta order some cf cards and a tripod.

I'm also a new EOS 400D owner. Got it for $1500 AUD with the Kit lens, going to mess about with the kit lens to learn to camera before spending big bucks on a nice lens :p

Oh - and it never rains here. "It pours, man it pours..." ;)
BTW - what this has to do with Canon DSLR's, I have no idea. But I'm sure Andy will know...

o-k i'm finally back from iraq and just got home to my new camera, gotta say i'm impressed. I can't really make any comparisons as its my first dslr, always been a point and shoot user before. Anyways these are a few of my first shots with the xti using the supplied kit lens. Criticism welcomed, any tips are aprreciated. Took the pics on full auto mode. This is my cat cecilia and a tree in the front yard.
