Krishna - you looking for a another new camera? (Didn't you start with the XT/350D?) This is the only speculation I've seen on a 40D. Everyone else is still focused on a new 1D camera though there have been persistent rumblings regarding the 5D (most likely a price drop but maybe an upgrade.)
As for your 40D, other than the new sensor and built-in dust buster, there's nothing new about the camera - so stick with your 30D and be happy! :D (Oh - and at least the guy is honest about mocking up the photo.)

I can't see this happening so soon after the 30D's release.

Yes, but it's all very strange. I can see arguments for and against. "For" would include keeping up MP-wise with the Joneses (or at least Nikonians) with the holiday buying season approaching. "Against" is the fact that they'll alienate a lot of 30D buyers and leave the rest of us wondering when they'll pull something like this on us.

Some are speculating that the new 10MP sensor wasn't ready when Canon first updated the 20D to the 30D. Now that the 400D is out Canon obviously has a 10MP sensor they can put in there. But I must say, if I bought a 30D and Canon does this 40D thing now, I'd be even more pissed than I was when the 400D was announced - and I didn't buy a 30D! Canon has kind of painted themselves into a corner on this one (assumng of course they actually do announce a 40D soon. If not, ignore my entire post! :o )

To me the 350/400 are definately aimed a the consumer where the 30/40D are prosumer. the 5D& 1D are not going to loose sales based on pixel count wher the 30D will loose some so I rekon Canon may well stiff you new 30D owners :(

I'm not worried about 2MP. The 30D is a superior shooting experience.

No doubt, but what will Canon say about all the cashed up people that want a 30D but there is the 400 just below at 10MP.

Canon know they have you for live MR. CDI, they know one day you will have a 5D:D

I don't know what Canon would say, but I would say stop worrying so much about having the latest and greatest. Buy something and use it. If you always wait for what's coming out next, you'll never have or be happy with anything.

Agreed, my 350D will do in 5 years what it does today;)

I don't know if we'll see a 40D.

I think it would make more sense for canon to wait, release a 40D with 10 mp sensor, and sealed body/bigger viewfinder and price it @ D200 price point.

I think it would piss off to the extreme people who bought the 30D to see it replaced so quickly.

And at same price point I'll take 2 more megapixels and dust cleaning any day.

Assuming that they offered a 40D at the same price point as the 30D with 2 more megapixels and dust cleaning, how much lower would they have to drop the price of the 30D to make you pick that model (if you were in the market for a camera) over the 40D? ie. what's the extra value to you of those new features?

Well the 2 megapixels value could be argued to be 0 to a few bucks but the dust cleaning feature to me is worth a lot if your comparing same bodies. 200>300$ ? I think I'd buy 30D if they lower it down to 899 online or so over 40D if it came out as is around 30D's selling price right now.,

There's a $200 B&H difference between the 30D and 20D now. Now if my prediction of the 40D being priced at the 30D and the 30D dropping to the 20D.... At that price difference I'd have to give it some serious thought which way to go.

so you wouldn't mind paying the same amount for your d200 if it were 8mp?

without knowing the price, 10mpix + anti dust = not so compelling to me

Not really ref, the D200's big + for me was the build/features over 8v10 mp.

Seeing as more brands are on the competing arena and some with weather sealing lets hope the 40d is better than 30d or 5d are. Pentax is on the move - also Olympus and Fuji for Photokina.

I would be very surprised if the 40d does not have ccd cleaning as the 400 xti.

lets hop better than the 30D and 5D? What is there to be better? Their image quality is top notch. I guess you just mean you want more features... more equals better? I see...

The followup of the 30D comes when it comes. And that may take some time yet. And in the mean time, the 30D is a very capable camera, with top of its class image quality.

Better would be nice, but then again so would a price drop on the 30D;) In any case, only 16 days before I place my order one way or the other. The leaves around here better stay green at least two more weeks....

I was at Canoga Camera yesterday ( http://www.canogacamera.com/ ) and I played with a 30D and I must admit it is a quite impressive camera. First off, it had been a while since I'd held anything other than my XT so the difference in size, heft and build quality was immediately evident. Definitely a much more robust camera. (The also had an XTi there and picking up that camera after playing with the 30D for 20 minutes made the XTi fee like a toy.) The viewfinder was also a revelation. It's been a while since I did my shoots with a 5D last year, but the viewfinder definitely reminded me more of that camera than the XT. I know I've bashed Canon for playing fast & loose on the whole upgrade thing with the 30D but I can see how people would be happy it, esp coming from a Rebel.

BTW - Did I mention I was at Canoga Camera? :o http://www.canogacamera.com/ Oh yes, well anyway I went there to pick up a battery grip(e) for my XT. Every since I got a 430EX, my XT is woefully out of balance (top heavy) and a heavy lens like my 70-200 F4 L makes it even worse. Constantly tilting the camera forward to review photos (i.e., "chimping") with that setup has trashed my wrist. The battery grip(e) seems to bring some balance back into the equation. I'll know for sure after today's shoot.

Well I don't want Jeff to get the idea I'm promoting Canoga Camera or anything like that http://www.canogacamera.com/ http://www.canogacamera.com/ http://www.canogacamera.com/ but I can say http://www.canogacamera.com/ I've gotten excellent customer service from them http://www.canogacamera.com/ in the past. They have a 14 day no questions asked return policy with no restocking fee, they'll price match any legit on-line dealer, they ship items same day in many cases (often with a little unexpected gift), and they're just really nice guys http://www.canogacamera.com/.

But - before you can get that great service you must do two things: ask for "Derek" and tell him I sent you. :D Did I already post a link? http://www.canogacamera.com/ :o
