Weeeeeee, the used 10D hath arrived. Put it through its paces, seems OK so far. Put in Metz with standard foot. No fire!!! Uh-oh. Tried Canon foot, it fires. <puzzled now>

Cleaned contacts with alcohol swab, no go. OK noticed that foot isn't quite sitting flat, so loosen lock and hold flash to body, putting pressure in different ways. Flash fires depending on pressure. <aha moment>

Checked hotshoe, seemed tight. Checked hotshoe guide, looks bent! <ugh but relief> Went to get tweezer, screwdriver and needlenose, popped off plate, unscrewed hotshoe off, and crimped it back in place. Wiped contacts clean and put it back together. <crossed fingers>

Put Metz back, it fires. Beautiful! Hold at -90, +90, 180, fires!!! Woohooooo!!!!!!!

It's a lil beat up, but hopefully the shutter will last a while.

The other thing that came in the mail today was the 28-75 Tammy. In pitch dark, it worked fine with the AF assist on the Metz, but I have yet to review the images on the computer.

Initial impressions: Plasticy (noticeably cheaper feeling than EF-S lenses imho), AF appears slower than USM, and the usual stuff that reviews say like the focus ring moves, no FTM, reverse turning zoom, yadda yadda.

I'm not really sure why I got this but -- I think I was intrigued with Andy's tests. Hopefully, it's a good copy and, if not, back it goes to the store.

Is the 10D a replacement or a 2nd body? Congrats on the new toys!

Thanks coldrain. I'm hoping it can serve as a 3rd body for versatility, between my shooting partner and I, mainly for events.

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for it? I'll probably be selling my 10D here in the near future and pick up either a 30D or 5D. I got it for roughly ~$700 about a 1.5 yrs ago. It has served me well (about 7000 shutter clicks), but I'm ready for an upgrade. Just curious what I can expect to get.

jwhite, it was under $500 and came with big ed as a package. I don't know if that gives you a reliable guide, but maybe you could check FM and see what the going prices are.

In other news, the Tammy passed the measurebator's focus chart test - no front or back focus. I took it out for a spin and it's sharp wide open (but, of course, this is very old news). The pitch back test with static subject shot wide open using AF assist (about 8 ft out) was sharp as well. Servo in daylight and lowlight as well as farther subjects will be next.

Do we have a keeper then?

I'm not sure, but I'll bring it to a wedding. ;)
