Well, you do show that the Canon kit lens is capable of good results.
In the 1st pic I would like to see the head in the center of the photo though. This way the swan seems to move out of the picture, without any obvious reason.. and that makes for distracting composition.
Very nice, the 2nd one.

Cheers mate, both shots were with the 75-300II, I see what you mean by the swan being off to the side

Haha stupid me! I should have known swans will not allow you that close with a kit lens. DOH:o

What a beauty! <in Crocodile Hunter's voice>
If I were to PP them, I'd either crop (...) most of the rear space on the right of the first one, or flip it horizontally (and still prefer to crop ... some of that space even then). On the 2nd one, I'd try to clone out the other adult goose, and crop (...) some of the same space to the rear.
But, again, beautiful captures as they are!

Thanks for the C&C guys, slowoly starting to get a bit more in tune with what the camera is doing and how that will look once you see it full size

Great shots, where they taken at the Botanical Gardens?
I tried that lens, but I could not keep the camera from shaking:o

Albert Park Lake, bump up the ISO a bit, the last shot was done with a monopod too which makes it a bit more stable

Thanks for the advise, I'll have to try that.
Also, this may sound stupid, but what it a monopod?
