It's so noisey because the camera used a high ISO. Use a tripod, or something else to keep your camera steady, and a slower shutter speed with an ISO of 80.
hey mate:
i ran the top one through a noise removing filter in photoshop

if you want really clean night shots straight off the camera, SLR it will have to be

reeksti,
I learned about the "Community Edition" of a program called "Noiseware (http://www.photo-freeware.net/noiseware.php)" through this forum. It does a decent job cleaning up high-ISO noise. You might give it a shot.....I tried it on one of your pictures (see attachments)

Either that or you can just slow down your shutter speed and lower your ISO level. Your noise problems are horrendous. Just set your ISO to about 100 or maybe even 200 and slow down the shutter speed. Make sure you have a tripod too though, because IS can only do so much. I've gotten clean night shots from my SD700 IS, so I'm more than sure you can do it with your S3.

Hes right about the shutter speed but the problem is you need a tripod or somthing to sit the camera on while the shutter is open for so long or it will blur.
Another thing you can do is when you shoot with a high ISO on cameras like this is frame your subject so that it is right in the middle and get as clos as you can without having the subject out of frame. Take the picture at the highest resolution with super fine then stretch the image down. Dont crop it, leave the full image but just drag it to a lower image size. This will compress the pixals together and the junk and noise usualy gets pushed out.
Try it with one of those image in paint. All windows has paint, open paint, then open the image, do to image at the top, then click stretch/skew now under the first line where it says 100% reduce it to like 30% on both verticle and horizontal then see how it looks.

nismo > all cept supra =)
anyway nice pics.. another thing u could do is get on TV mode.. set ISO to 100 and get a tripod and set the exposure to like 2 seconds or 1 sec.. its the only other way.. unfortunately the ISO performance on this camera is no where near good =(

Hey Truflip, I like your gallary! I'm from Ottawa too. http://s88.photobucket.com/albums/k162/nickandaline/?start=20
I think I've got some parlement building shots in there.
Oh and back to the origional post. I would suggest taking the cars some were more intresting than a parking lot. I like the first one but that is a nice car that deserves to be in a place where you can use that AWD like a dirt road in a forest or maybe just park infront of some trees and angle it like you are in a forest. It's all about perspective.

I agree with Nick.. especially NOT a sams club parking lot. because when i think performance and technology, oh yeah, i think Sams club.
But definitely go to Noiseware.com and download their free "Community edition" of Noiseware. those little freckles are noise. the noiseware will remove this pretty well with a fairly minimal loss of detail. I swear by this program. Take a picture and run it through and you can click on the picture to see the before and after results. you can then undo it and retry. But don't rely solely on noiseware, because noise is lost detail and you lose a little more detail when you remove the noise.
If you're going to stage a shot like this, definitely bring a tripod along (you have no excuse, it'll fit in the trunk of your car :D ) Play around in the manual area of your camera, someone said your S3, so if you have an S3, play around in M and TV modes and set a slower shutter speed. but a tripod is a must. or if you don't have a tripod you can try setting your camera on something solid.
Just re-iterating what's been said before i know. but.. there ya go.

hey.. shutter speed is something you'll need to play around with until you get it just right. Since it's digital and those are composed, static shots, you'll have the luxury of adjusting your speed as many times as needed. I'd start at 1/4 of a second and take a pic, look at it, if you're not happy, step it up to maybe a full second.. somewhere in there.. but you'll DEFINITELY need it mounted on a tripod or setting on some other solid, unmoving surface.
If you want to know more about the MR-S gt, her car was featured as the cover car in Import Tuner, sept. 04.

well he also *shouldn't* use the flash, so the shutter speed has got to be slower... Like i said, since the car shots are static and composed, he has as much time as he needs to experiment. but 1/4 is right where i'd start. Or see what auto suggest and then switch over to manual, set my ISO to 100 and start where auto suggested and step it up till i find it. Just my two cents though. there's more than one way to skin a cat.
