how would you compar the Reble XT to the 20D?
IQ? Features? Design? is the D20 know to be a better camera? more pro?

Better handling and ergonomics (rear dial). More durable.
30D would be ideal :D

D20? Do you mean 20D from Canon? Or do you mean Nikon's D200? I would assume the Canon 20D since you're in the Canon section...but wierder things have happened around here.
If you mean the 20D from Canon, then it trumps it in every way. The XT is based on the 20D's guts but it still lacks a lot of things. I don't feel like listing them out. You can compare them on this site and/or www.dpreview.com

pro XT/EOS 350D:
Smaller size
Less weight
Smaller grip
Less money.
Pro EOS 20D:
Bigger grip
Bigger size
More weight
2nd wheel on the back
More accurate auto focus system
Bit better in higher ISO
Some other minor points.

XT - amateurs (and starting-out pros).
20D - amateurs (with lots of cash), aspiring pros.
1D - amateurs (with oodles of cash), pros.
The AF on all can be improved with the use of the STE-2 or a Canon flash (with built-in IR focussing aid).

I have not handled a 20 D but upgraded from rebel xt to 30D. I personally feel
(I am no pro) comfortable with the 30D for the following reasons:
1) the rebel was too tiny for my hands- kept poking into my palm
2) the auto focus on the 30 d is faster than the rebel
3) the better iso sensitivity and low noise of the 30 D
4) superior ergonoimics of the 30 D compared to the rebel xt
5) 30 D is more robust than the rebel xt
6) Using a huge lens balances better on the 30 D than the rebel

EDIT
I feel that the colors on the nikon ( not withstanding the fact that you can make adjustments) are far inferior to canon- but thats my feeling. I always felt that canon had better vividity and naturality than Nikon whose images appear dull and lifeless- IMO

Designed for astronomers, I think some sort of IR filter is removed for whatever reason.

The 20Da offers a 20 second or so live preview for night astronomy photography. This can not be used for normal photography though (forgot why, its been a while since it was introduced).

I think it heats up too much or something. *shrug*
