How long can I keep digging up old threads/posts??

I have a question and not sure where to post.
I have been a member for just over one year and I still can dig up old posts/thread from the past and bring it back to life. My question is how long can I keep doing this before becoming impossible?

If you click on Private Messages and then Edit Options, it lets you set the thread expiry time from one day to forever. The default is, cleverly, "default", but it doesn't say how long that is.
