View Full Version : Need memory specs on Powershot S3 IS.
I found your site while researching a new digital camera.I had more or less made up my mind on the S3 already and you have some nice stuff here that further encouraged me.Any good or bad stuff you can further shed light on would be appreciated.
I was thinking about getting a couple of 512mb cards but after looking at prices I've changed my mind to 1gb's,2gb's or greater.
The review here says get a 66x or better.I can't find any solid specs anywhere on the cameras capabilities.Would it be able to make use of a card with 133x speed or is that just overkill?
What I need to know is what is the fastest speed of SD card the camera can utilize and what is the biggest card the S3 can use i.e.would it work with a 4gb card if I got one?

That would be overkill, but wouldn't hurt anything. Prices being what they are these days, the cost difference is moving into the noise range. I just bought a 2G 150x card for $38 because it was cheaper then the 60x card.

Thanks for the reply David.I had already went ahead and ordered before you got in.You confirmed my suspicions but I figured it wouldn't hurt to have a nice fast one.I'm in the UK so prices are higher for me.I bought a Sandisk SD Extreme (133x) 1gb along with the camera.Just waiting for the batteries to charge up fully and then I will be playing around a bit.
If anyone knows it would still be nice to know what speed the 16mb card you get with the camera is.

I doubt you'll see any problems with that. When it arrives, try full image burst mode and 640x480 30fps video and see what happens.

Where did you get the card from? I've been looking on the net, and haven't found any 2GB cards that have any speed listed. After a 1GB card at 80x for about $37 I found a 4GB 150x for about $150, which is totally out of my price range...

Try Newegg, they have some for less than that.

Can anyone shed light on what manuals are/should be in the manual kit that comes with the S3,I think some are missing in mine.

I found the pdf versions earlier, but thanks if that's what your link was.It said the system was congested when I went there. My camera just arrived with the Basic and nothing else so I think they sent me a returned item instead of a new one. I'm waiting for a reply from them now about it.

I got mine on New Egg. A Transcend card, IIRC.
