Hello everybody. I've been browsing the forums for a couple of months now, and the threads are helping me get better pictures with my new Powershot S2IS :).
Now, I'd like to get a couple of accessories. I've looked at Lensmate's page (http://www.lensmateonline.com/newsite/order_S2_1.html), and I think I'll buy the following:
Lensmate 52mm adapter
Lens Cap w/ molded loop 52mm
Hoya UV (double coated) Silver 52mm
Linear Polarizer (Double Coated) 52mm
Hoya 52mm ND8 Filter
This is my first time buying these things, and I'm not sure I'm getting all I need or whether these are the "right" things.
Firstly, the adapter. I phoned the Canon distributor here in Malta to compare prices, and they told me that "the Canon takes the 58mm adapter, not the 52mm". Err... so how does the Lensmate use 52mm? I'm just asking for confirmation, even though Lensmate's photos should be proof enough ^^;.
Secondly, do I need more than 1 adapter, or do the UV filter, polarizer and ND filter "stack"? If I get only 1 do I need to take off the UV filter to use the linear polarizer? I'd prefer not having to replace filters while outside, since I'm quite clumsy and would surely drop something while shooting! If it means getting more than one adapter then so be it.
Hope I haven't rambled too much. Any help appreciated.
Thanks! :D

That is quite a comprehensive set already and should be more than enough for your use. You can stack them on top of each other although I don't think you'll be stacking them 3 high. If I were you, I will just stack either the Polarizer or the ND8 one at a time and not 3 of them at the same time. Just watch out for possible vignetting when using the wide end of the zoom.

# Lensmate 52mm adapter
# Lens Cap w/ molded loop 52mm
# Hoya UV (double coated) Silver 52mm
# Linear Polarizer (Double Coated) 52mm
I purchased these four for my S3 IS. I have not had any need for any other adapters/filters since. Therefore, assuming I have some semblance of good judgment (who am I kidding - I read posts here and relied on others' good judgment), you should be fine with these.

Do a search on e-bay for a 52mm canon cap. They make light and dark gray canon cap. There are some cheap ones under $5. and then there are some actualy made by canon. I have a few of both.
The cheap ons are just a flat pinch cap that has the canon logo in white painted on and the actual canon pinch cap is molded and the canon logo is raised into the front of the cap. The 2 i have that are actual canon caps have the canon logo in chrome.
Might as well get a canon cap right?
This ons is the lensmate 58mm

Hmm... call me stupid, but I have no idea how to use eBay ^^;. The problem is always with no easily apparent way to use my (Maltese) bank with Paypal. I will try again and get a Canon lenscap, it does look better :).
I've also decided not to take the neutral density filter after reading a bit more about it. It's not that I don't want one, but at the moment I don't think I will actually use it, and since I'm a little strapped for cash atm, I will pick it up later on together with a nice wideangle lens.
Thanks for all the comments and help! I look forward to contribute some nice photos on here with my new filters ^^;.

Just use a PL and UV filter. Those seem to be the only filters you really need. Uv more for protection and then the PL for similar stuff as the ND and for reflections.

I just purchased the 52 mm adapter (silver) last week for my S2 along with a UV filter. Fit great! I am new to using adapters and filters so I wasn't sure I order the right thing and that I could get it all attached. It was easy!

Thanks a lot for all the replies - you've been all very helpful :).
I've ordered them, but had a problem with the credit card... sent an email to the Lensmate sales department, and I'm sure it will be sorted out. Now I just hope they arrive quickly, I've still got a couple of weeks holiday and would like to capture a few of our summery landscapes before I start teaching :D.
