Hi everyone,
I currently have a Canon PowerShot A610 and I really like it, but I've been thinking about buying a Canon S2 IS and was wondering if you all think it would be a good upgrade from the A610? Do you think it's worth it? I've been looking at the S2 IS and it's a nice looking camera. What would you say are the pluses that the S2 IS has over the A610? Thanks for your time! :)
Thanks again,

Ive had my S2 for abouth 6 months or so and then got an S3. I still use my S2 more for some reason. Just a few weeks ago i got an A540 and ide have to say the S2 just has way better performance. Not only the feel of the camera but using a EVF is so much more consistant and its alot easier keeping it steady holding it to your face.
The zoom lens is a big + over the smaller compact cameras. The flash is better, the settings are better you have macro and super macro giving you any distanceyou can think of.
I don't know much about the A610, but I can tell you the S2 is a great little camera. I bought one to replace my G2, and although I miss the G2 a little, the S2 is a fine camera that can do an awful lot. It's kind of a jack of all trades, it isn't great at doing anything, but it can do a lot of things pretty good. The big zoom with IS is the main selling point to me, with a minor in movie capability.

Hi BowerR64 & TenD,
Sorry I didn't get back to this thread sooner and thanks for your input! :) I just bought a new S3 IS camera and I'm now waiting for it to be delivered. I'll be selling my A610 once I receive my new S3. I can't wait! :D Do you have any suggestions as to what "must have" accessories I should get for it?
Thanks again,

Hey Bones, i have an S3 and it all depends on what you want. a MUST is a nice set of rechargeable Nimh batteries. A nice sized memory card. and from there you can get a lense/filter adaptor tube and hood set on amazon fairly cheap, then you'll be able to use conversion lenses and all sorts of filters. the first filter you buy would probably be a UV, because they're fairly inezpensive and they'll protect your glass.
you can get telephoto lenses, wide angle lenses, close ups, polarizers... just depends on what you're looking to shoot and how much you have.
I have the hood/tube set and my next purchase will be a hoya UV and Hoya CP filters.

Mr. Bone88,
Common accessories are as follows:
1) rechargable batteries (2500mah and above)
2)High speed SD cards 1gb and above in size, the faster card is specially beneficial when shooting videos
3) Bag ( size depends on wheter you will get a lens adapter or not and other len converters)
4) Tripod - a simple, lightweight yet sturdy and economical aluminun tripod will suffice.
5) Lens adapter - many buy this so they can add filters and lens converters
6)Filters - a UV, a polarizer and if you have extra cash, a neutral density filter are all you will most liekly need. the UV filter stays on my camera 99% of the time and act as a lens protector.
7) Tele and/or wide angle lens converter - these will depend on the thread size of the adapter you bought (usually 52mm or 58mm)
8) and if you still got some spare change then a nice camera strap to replace the included strap. :)
for me the first 4 are must haves while the last 4 , specially 5,6,& 7, are luxury items which you shouldn't be in a hurry to buy until you are quite familiar with the camera and the type of shots you usually take.

Welcome to the club hope to see some new pics in the "Some S3 Pics" thread soon. danielg's list seems pretty exhaustive so I'll just throw in a little advise. Rechargable batteries are a must unless you plan on being the chief supporter of the First "National Bank of Duracell" If your like me and can't seem to stop touching the lens accidently you may find an adapter and UV filter to be a niffty solution. Wait on purchasing add-on lenses until you've spent some time with the camera. Then buy what fits your shooting style. A nice carrying case will be useful.

Hi all,
Thank you all for the great suggestions and info! :) I can't wait until I receive my S3 IS! :D I already have a 15 minute Rayovac IC3 charger and some 15 minute IC3 2300mAh NiMH batteries. These batteries work great with my Canon PowerShot A610 so will they work just as good with my S3 IS too? I also have a 1GB SD card as well. I also have a tripod too. I'll need a nice case to hold my S3 along with my battery charger, extra batteries, cables and etc. Should I look on ebay for a nice case? I'm not looking to spend a fortune on a case, but would like a nice one that wont fall a part in a few months, lol. Looks like I'll also need a lens adapter, UV filter and hood to protect my lens. I'll look into all the other accessories once I get used to the camera and etc. I'll check out the links for the lens adapter, UV filter and hood. You bet I'll be posting in the "Some S3 Pics" thread when I receive my camera! :D
Thanks again,
-Mr. Bone88

Since you will be buying a lens adapter, a nice case that doesnt look like a camera bag is the Crumpler 2 Million or 3 Million dollar Home. It fits the s3is with lens adapter installed and extra accessories. :)
