Hi, I currently own the Canon A95. I've read excellent reviews about this camera and am considering replacing my A95 (especially since its a 100$ cheaper then my A95 was). How much of an improvement/difference does the camera hold over the A95 qualitywise, from firsthand expierence?

It has a bigger CCD doesnt it? The 620 is still 400 iso?

Yeah, the A620 has 400 ISO, but it's only for desperate shots, its so noisy.

The A620 is an incremental step up from the A95, meaning that the picture quality is a little better and it operates much faster - less shutter lag, faster shot-to-shot, etc. I moved up from an A85 to the A620, and it was worth it primarily because I Ebay'ed my A85+1gb CF card for $180 and got my A620 for $220, plus I got a 1gb SD card for free. If were looking to upgrade now, I would probably wait a couple of months to see if a new A-series or similar came out.

wait until the 24th. thursday when canon announces their new camera specifically I am talking about the A640 that meny people are expecting to come. there are some poasts on dpreview about it but they are disappointing. However I have heard the Canon A700 might be discontinued. that or it is popular and canon cannot produce enough. if it is discontinued then that leaves room for an A640 or A8xx with IS and maybe rotating LCD but dpreview people say that canon seems to be going in a different direction.

just my $.02 please don't believe anything without chekcing my evidence because I have a vivid imagination and tend to hope for what i think it best even if it is insane which I believe it is.

theyre revealing a dSLR... lol
its the only logical thing to do.. i mean Sony's just released one, Nikons just released the D70, why would Canon sit around and release an Axxx line camera?
I suppose they could released a Point and Shoot + dSLR..
now that would be cool right?

Im really tempted to purchase this camera, from all the wonderful things ive read about it in reviews Etc. Its just, I recieved the A95 as a christmas present a couple years back from my parents (including a 1 GB compact flash card), And I'm really trying fully convince myself that its worthwhile to purchase this camera though I already have a functioning good quality camera as it is. The main reason I would buy the camera is because it seems that it improved in all the areas that the A95 needs it (such as focusing speed, which is pretty slow on the A95), and it has some new features that I want, as well as being incredibly cheap at 200$, which is all i can afford (cant really wait for newer models because they will be at full price, I cant go above 220). I can't decide whether to do it, or to just live with my A95 (which is a perfectly good camera) and stop looking for the next best thing.

They always reveal a DSLR or two plus about 10 or so point and shoots. This year will be no different.

The A610/A620, the SD550, the A4XX, the SD30 and the S80 (if it is continuing on at all) are all due up for replacements.

rex is correct they release them all on the same day. look at the timeline on dpreview. 2005 on the 22nd they announced like 8 cameras or more. thereis bound to be 1 or 2 Axxx cameras, 1 or 2 SD cameras. 1 DSLR (Rebel XTi). maybe an S model (S90). and possibly another camera or two for good measure.

What do you mean DSLR? SLR and DSLR is the same thing isnt it? D meaning digital. A camera that has no lenses is an SLR right? then you add your own lens that has an apature and stff built in.

The rebel XT is a DSLR right? just the body, then you add your own lens, some rebel kits have a lens.

The S2 and S3 are considered SLR like i think.

I hope canon releases an SLR with SD memory and no rechargable packs. I want an SLR but im not into proprietery battery packs and i dont really want to move back to older CF memory technology.
