My S2-IS is making a clicking noise when the lens extends and retracks. It just started doing it today. I've had it about 8 months and just got it back from Canon for repairs. There was a short in the LCD screen when it was just about ready to click into the back of the camera and would turn off.

Any suggestions on what could be wrong now with the clicking noise? I hate to have it back in for repairs for another month!

You probobly got sand or durt in the gears. If you send it back to canon they will probobly charge you. This is one of the things they point out that they dont cover. Dust or sand and water damage.

On another forum i go to, this one user sent his A70 to canon and it wasnt covered. They sent him an e-mail and told him the repairs were $100. and if he didnt pay it they were gona keep his camera. Maybe it was this forum? seems pretty harsh thing to do but thats what he said.

I just got it back for the repairs on the LCD short, so I've only had it back for 7 days and have taken very few pictures. The pictures I've taken were of hummingbirds while sitting in a lawn chair. I don't see how it could get dirt in the gears. I'm just bummed that something's wrong with it again. I was supposed to take pics at my nieces wedding rehearsal dinner, looks like that's a bust.

Thanks

Kim

I would sat that if its grinding there is a problem...If it is just clicking, the first thing I would look at would be the batteries. I notice that if my rechargables aren't fully charged I get this sometimes.

You could also remove the trim ring at the base of the lense, turn the camera on, and take an can of air and try to blow the junk out. try not to let too much moisture build up though.

So you think canon will pay for shipping to send the camera back to them, then spend 2 hours to tear it down and fix it because its making a noise? I dono if ide push it. If it wasnt fully functioning then i could see but making a noise seems like nit picking.

The dust could of fallen into the mechanism during shipping, then when you turned it on it got into the gears.

What if it gets damaged on the way sending it to them? or on the way back then you will have that to deal with.

I recharged the batteries, they were a little low, but it still makes this clicking/grinding sound. I'm taking it back to the camera shop where I bought it. Thanks for all your help.

You'll never guess what happened! I took my camera back to the store I bought it at - Norman Camera in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The guy looked at it, and took it to the back of the store. He came back with a box and said, here's your new camera.YEEHAA!!

He said the gears were off track. so I got a new S2-IS. Isn't that too cool? I recommend www.normancamera.com to anyone! There' the best.

Kim:)
