hey everyone. i stumbled across this site while looking into a new camera for myself, but am hoping you can offer some advice on my current dilema.

the camera in question is my girlfriend's DSC-P32. i gave her the camera as a gift last christmas. last weekend we used the camera for a few things, and upon getting it out of the car, the lcd isn't functioning  the best way to describe it would be like it had an image burn in (not the problem, but closest symptoms). the camera is still functional as it can take pictures, turn on and off, and the menus even navigate (at least i hear them, haha). obviously the camera is out of sony's WONDERFUL (smell the sarcasm?) 90 days of labour included warranty, so i'm nervous what will happen when they quote me some outrageous price when i call tomorrow. does anyone have any advice on what the problem could be, what to expect, and possibly ways to fix this myself (i'm very capable of working with electronics, just new to the world of cameras).

thanks VERY much in advance for helping a newbie to your boards. i'm very glad to have found this resource. THANKS!

I have a similar problem with my DSC P 10 which I bought about 2 1/2 yrs back. When I switch on the camera the LCD stays black and I can't see anything that the view finder shows. If I click, the shutter clicks and capture a photo which is a blank black screen. I can see all the menu's on the lcd but no picture. Can someone help me with this probelm and/or remedies to repair it. I bought it for $550 and now it consts about $250 for a similar model. I went to a couple of stored for repair options and everyone wants me to pay them $250 upfront and do not promise it fix it.

Please help,
Thanks,
Sash

All of a sudden my DSC-P51 wouldn't display an image on the LCD screen. It remained black instead of displaying the subject. The menu displayed fine on the screen. The shutter worked also.

I didn't want to spend the $$ that it would take to fix it as it is 2.5 years old and isn't worth much. One can be found on the bay for much less than what it would cost to fix my camera. Not wanting to give up, I read a whole lot of posts and did a lot of research. I "fixed" the problem by, get this, simply hitting one end of the camera with the heel of my hand while firmly holding the camera in my other hand. Something loose inside that responded to a firm knock and the subsequent jarring of the innards??? After two weeks of use, it is still working like it did before.

I hope this "fix" can help someone else and save lots of $$.

Good luck!

My DSCP71 is 2 years old, bouught it for $300.
Suddenly I am seeing weired colors when I shoot an image.
It becomes PINK , GREEN etc.
I printed it , still same.
Sony says they will charge $250 to fix it , no guarantee though.

Any thoughts.
