I recently purchased an S2 IS and took it with me on vacation. However, I noticed that when you take pictures into the sun, there are two side effects:
1) Bright "dots" (which I have experienced with all cameras), and, surprisingly
2) Thin vertical lines (which you can see by zooming in a lot)
I haven't yet tried printing these pictures to see if the lines come out, but I'm wondering whether this applies to all S2s or if this is a defect specific to my camera. In addition, should I contact Canon for a replacement or is this normal?
Note: The original image size was 2.35 MB, and when I uploaded it to PhotoBucket, it was automatically resized. Consequently, I also uploaded a cropped/zoomed in version that was much smaller.

I would definitely say there is something wrong here.
Are these pictures taken with the Hoya UV filter installed? Does it still happen with it off?

Yes, I did use a Hoya UV filter. I'll do some tests with and without and then post them here.

can u post the exif for the 2nd picture there? its a sensor problem, it will not be there in every picture, but if it does or gets severe, contact canon.
of the thousands of pics ive taken so far, only a few went bad like urs.. it was during a bright sunny day.. the sun was on my right bout 45 degrees up.. took a shot at 1/1000 F8..
now the key is F stop, so try taking a similar shot and lower the F stop n see if u still get it. hope this helps

The second picture is just an inset of the first, so they have the same EXIF data.

Yeah, it was at F4.0. I'll try experimenting with different F-stops and see what happens. Thanks for the advice!
