Help required - can someone please give me an opinion on the following cameras

CASIO Exilim Card EX-S600

Sony Cybershot w70

Im looking for opinions on the above two cameras, I have already posted in more detail but, for some reason, received no replies.

Why did you come to the selection of these two specific models?

Hi Sharon,

There don't seem to be too many sites that have reviewed both cameras. Cnet.com gave the W70 a higher rating than the S600, and digitalcamerainfo.com said that the image quality of the S600 was "terrible". Steve's Digicams is the only site that I have seen that has sample images from both cameras, and both seem to have issues - the Casio with corner blurriness and fuzzy details in subjects like trees, and the Sony with blurriness on the left side (so much so that I'm wondering if Steve got a defective camera).

Overall I like Sony's cameras better than Casio's based on image quality alone, so I'd tend to go with the W70, if you're limited to those two choices.

Hi, picked the w70 as it would be a direct upgrade from the camera I lost (w5) im used to handling the sony, knows its menus, which are pretty much the same and was completely happy with. The movie mode on it was great as well which is quite important to me. It has also been slimmed down, which I like.

I picked the casio as its a great looking camera and seems to have what im looking for but I cant find much info on it - what I have found has been quite negative. Was wondering if anyone on here would be able to give any positives. To be honest im swinging towards the Sony. Im used to it, can afford it, like the design and functions.....only thing im not sure of is the lithium battery - its expensive to replace/have a spare.

Then go for the Sony W50 or W70. They are good cameras. Other ultracompacts I would consider are the Canon SD series like the SD 700 IS, SD550 and SD630.

Do not worry about the lithium ion batteriesm they last a very long time. In fact, the li-ion battery I got 3 years ago with my Canon S30 is still in fine condition (and does service in my Canon EOS 350D now).
