I'm planning to purchase the D200 and am looking for recommendations for a two lens combination to purchase with the body. I do mostly outdoor photography focusing primarily on landscape photos.
Do you have a set budget? If so, what is it? Do you mind third party lenses like Sigma and Tamron? This will help others give you better suggestions.

I'd suggest the Tokina 12-24mm f4 for the wide stuff (regardless of budget).
Pair that with a nice Sigma 24-70 f2.8 or Tamron 28-75 f2.8 to have an all 3rd party lens kit, or get a Nikon 18-200 VR just for the convenience of a big zoom range.
Or a Nikon 28-70 f2.8 to have a great lens.

Budget not really an issue. The 18-200 VR sounds very convenient.

Well there you go then. I would not consider the 18-200 because I rather would have more than one lens without the drawbacks (distortion and its image quality).
But if you like a convenient 18-200, pair that up with a Tokina 12-24 for the wider views of land and city scapes, and you have a very nice 2 lens combination for your D200.

Though I dont have the D200, I do have the Sigma 18-200, the Tokina 12-24, and the Sigma 24-70 and I really love this combination. I do find that I use the Sigma 24-70 more than the 18-200 because the image quality is that much better, and because I have seen such a big difference I am planning on getting the Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 to cover the 12-200 range (Tokina + Sigmas). One drawback to the 2 Sigma f/2.8 lens' option vs. the Nikkor 12-200 VR or Sigma 18-200 is that they are very heavy and for long hikes they can wear you down! This is why I keep my Sigma 18-200 handy! Hope this helps.
Good luck!
