Hi, Im currently looking to buy my first DSLR.

Im going to Japan in October so will probably look to save money by getting it out there (UK prices are high in comparison).

My main criteria is good image quality especially when printed large. Weight, I want to be able to take it on long treks so i dont want anything to heavy. Im mainly going to be taking landscapes, but other general pics will also be taken.

I'm currently thinking either the Nikon D80, or the Canon 350D, as both of these are reasonably light. As most of my photos are going to be landscapes im thinking that high iso's probably arent going to be an issue unless i guess im taking in twilight?

Also any one got any ideas about buying in japan, any good websites (that have an english version). How likely is it that Im going to be able to walk into a shop in japan and pick up a Nikon D80 in early october, ive heard Nikon roll outs can be very slow, but im presuming i i can get them anywhere i can get them in japan!

Keep in mind you'll need to send the camera or lens back to Japan for warrenty work.

By October Canon will probably have new cameras too, it is a bit early to tell what will be available in october. The 24th of this month Canon wil introduce one or more cameras.

Both the Nikon and the Canon will be good for landscape photography. I gues what lenses have your fancy is a more important choice than the camera body you get with it. The Canon is of course lighter and smaller, the Nikon has a nicer screen.
