View Full Version : Want to possibly use my Minolta lenses

I've had digital cameras for several years, Coolpix 950, 995 and now a Kodak P880. Prior to the digitals I've always had Minolta SLRs, SR-7, SRT-101, XD-5, 7000i and a 8000i. Now that Minolta/Konica is gone, and bought by Sony, are there any D-SLRs that would let me use my Minolta mount lenses, bellows, and extension tubes?

Does the new Sony that's been announced take my Minolta autofocus lenses. I don't have too many lenses, but as I'm in the market for a D-SLR, it might be nice to make use of what I have.

Jeff's review of the Sony A-100 says it uses the same mount as the Maxxum 5D and 7D, but I don't know if that's the same as my 8000i used.

Reuse of my lenses aside, I'm salivating over a canon 30D:D

Yes, the lenses from your 8000i will work (if they are from minolta, there are a few 3rd party lenses that will prove to be incompatible), on the KM 7D and 5D and the Sony A100.

If you just have cheap zoom lenses, it may not be such a big advantage to have the lenses already, because a digital SLR is a bit more choosy in image/lens quality.
What lenses do you have?

I've not unpacked my film camers since going digital with the Nikons, but if memory serves it's a Sigma 28-80 and a 80-200 that I don't remember the maker of. And of couse a minolta 55mm "normal" lens. I do remember sending the lens back to Sigma because they need to correct something to make it work with the 7000i and 8000i models.

I also have a bellows set and some extension tubes, as well as a T mount adaptor for my telescope.

It would make the wife happy to see those items back in use. If you're married you know what I mean.

The 28-80 probably is not worth the effort, the 28-80 lenses tend to disappoint a lot in image quality on DSLRs. The others you can of course try out on a A100 near you, and then just get an A100 with a 18-something kitlens to replace the 28-80 with.

I'm not quite ready to make the jump, so I have a little more time to decide.

I guess I'll open up my old camera stuff and see what lenses I can find.

Thanks.
