The pictures won't open for me when I click on the links in the thread you refer to. Maybe you have to be a memebr of that forum to see them?

After further investigating, I was led to Nikonians and this seems to be a pretty common issue........

The JIT debugger is part of .NET.
I found that even though I had .NET 2.0 (?) installed Capture NX would not run because it is looking for a specific component in .NET 1.1 SP whatever that it refers to.
I went to Microsofts site and downloaded the EXACT service pack that Capture NX wanted. I then downloaded Capture NX (without the .NET extensions) and it installed and has run perfectly.

I uninstalled .NET 1.1 and installed 2.0 and the errors went away but NX would say it had to close for some reason and wouldnt run. So I dont know what to do.. I dont get the errors with .NET 2 but it wont run without .NET 1.1:mad:

Download and install the EXACT version of .NET that Capture NX asks for. Do not delete what you already have. It seems that there is something in the particular service pack that is not replicated in other releases of .NET.

or you could just download and install the Capture NX version WITH .net so you get the correct version?? Its only a 82mb download or so! Or is this version incorrect? I just reformatted my HD because my 30 day Capture NX trial is up... wooohoo another extra 30 days...I installed this Capture NX with .net version and have had not problems as of yet. Knock on wood...I hope I dont have to hunt you guys down later with the same problem!

Chris, I hope you dont either, but after another day of spending 5+ hours on the phone with Microsoft techs, they are starting to think there is a bug or problem with Nikons software. I am also reading this on other forums aswell. So I think its just a matter of time for you Chris....

K1W1, could you post a direct link to what you dloaded and installed? The tech had me run an XP repair from the dis and then install Service Pack 2, and then install .NET 1.1 redistributable and still had no luck. They are going to research it some more tonight and call me again tomorrow, hopefully with more ideas. I have tried everything with the .NET Frameworks, 1.1, 2.0, the redistributables, everything! The fix on Nikonians did not help me at all. I contacted Nikon Support and their bright idea was to un-install and re-install Capture NX, yea thanks for the tip! .... If you could post you link please K1W1 and thesteps you took to get yours to work would be much appreciated.

On a side note, after installin .NET 1.1, I would get the same 2 errors, so I un-installed 1.1 and tried NX again, I did NOT get the errors this time but got this error instead...

From what I have seen that is where the problems occur. It seems that lots of people have issues with that particular version.

I jus downloaded the version WITHOUT the .NET extensions. When it wouldn't work I downloaded .NET Service Pack 1.1 from this page

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=a8f5654f-088e-40b2-bbdb-a83353618b38&DisplayLang=en

and after I installed it Capture NX worked perfectly.

Everyone has different computer setups with different software and registry values ect.ect so what might work for one person might not work for another. So far its been ok, and I am on day 40 with about 2-3 hours a day using Capture NX with out any major hiccups. I have noticed that when I save settings and try to apply them to another image, I get error messages, and every once in a blue moon I get an error message when I try to save an image as JPG. Obviously there are a lot of problems with NX, that still need to be worked out! It will only be a matter of time before these problems are addressed, and I noticed with the latest downloadable version of NX that there is an update message after you first install it, I dont know if this update has fixed anything, but we shall see! I feel your pain, it sucks to spend so much time and energy trying to get something to work, when it should work in the first place. Good thing that its a free trial right?

Wrong, lol, its not free for me, I paid $150 for a shipped version. I am just going to start fresh and do a clean restart. Microsoft and myself think that is best. Yes, as you noted, you have started to see the problems with your computer and the software aswell(thats how it started with mine also). I think Nikon is going to have a MAJOR problem on their hands very shortly!

Jason,

When you say you are going to start fresh and do a clean restart, are you refferring to Reformatting your computer? That is what I would do. Reformat, reinstall windows XP (or what ever OS you are using) . At this point, create an image with a program like Norton Ghost so that you have a starting point for next time. ONLY download and install .net verson 1.1 from windows update. Once that is done, install NX without .net and you should be fine. One thing to consider is that when you install, uninstall, reinstall different versions of .net it still leaves values in your registry and this could be part of your problem. You are right, Microsoft and Nikon are going to have an ugly spooge on their hands if they dont get this fixed ASAP!

Good luck!

Yes, I meant reformat. I have done so and I installed 1.1 from Microsoft and NX worked fine, its been working fine ever since reformatting. Thank god that nightmare is over, now on to the next one... Editing over 600 wedding photos and have them ready in time for Saturday afternoon.

I truly hope nobody else has to endure this headache!!

On a side note, the Microsoft tech I had was a joy to deal with, he was patient and very interested in finding out what the problem was. During our last convo today, he told me that since my problem took so long and that they really didnt find what the problem was, that he would refund my service charge! Thumbs up for Microsofts support, thumbs down for Nikons support!!

Forgot to mention I received a reply from Nikon today and while I cant say word for word what was said in the message, the jist of it is as follows...

They are finally realizing and admitting there is a problem and they suggested that the fix I linked to on Nikonians should work. One thing that struck me as funny was the comment that its only a very small percentage of users who get this problem. Well Nikon, to me, if its even just 1%, thats 1% too many! get your $h!t(software) straight Nikon!:D
