Great review - they really captured the proper usage for the camera, a fun little travel/everyday camera which produces really nice pictures... with a little noise at the higher ISOs. Regardless of that fact, I'm thrilled with it!

Even more interesting (to me at least :D ) is how the TZ1 literally wipes the floor with the Kodak V610 - the only other camera in the same class as the TZ1 (at least in terms of design and features). Anyone considering a pocketable ultrazoom should review the TZ1 vs. V610 comparison in the link above before they buy. I'm glad I waited!!

Strike that. Make it A POCKETABLE ULTRAZOOM WITH OIS.

Strike that. Make it A POCKETABLE ULTRAZOOM WITH OIS.Ehhh... then why would they want to read the review of the TZ1 vs. the V610 (no OIS)?

My point was that even in the broader context (not considering OIS), the Panasonic still completely dominates the Kodak V610. Following your logic, why don't you just say "a pocketable ultrazoom with OIS... made by Panasonic... available in black or silver... and with the letter 'Z' in it?'

Silly isn't it?

I am using now the camera quite some time and it is a handy little camera. The only thing - and I agree with the test - is if Panasonic would use better chips inside it would be a magnificant camera. With that the pictures are average - they are missing a bit of brilliance and sharpness. But the chips in Panasonic cameras is something that annoys user through out all forums.

Nevertheless a great camera with excellent video function. What it needs is a fast SD card (burst mode & video). So far I didnīt regret the buy.
I posted examples (pictures,video,burst) under www.dmares.myphotoalbum.com

Fair enough. I wonder if anyone else 'got it?'

I noticed in Dennis' photo album that he mentioned a color saturation issue I've tried two different TZ1 in stores and noticed some issues with color in the photos and on the LCD display.

first I noticed that the LCD showed blues really saturated and much lighter than reality. I tried all the white balance settings and some were better than others. None were right on.

Secondly I noticed that the photos were opposite from the LCD. The blues where less saturated than reality (more grayish).

Since the LCD is so bad I am not sure if you'll know in the field what WB setting to use.

The review said that color accuracy was very good. So why the issue?

Does anyone have any comments or experience about this?

Thanks Martinlp

The TZ1 seems to me like a diamond in the rough. If Panasonic isn't lazy, I definitely see areas where the camera could be improved significantly with the next model upgrade/redesign without jacking up the price. Kinda like the jump from the Canon Powershot S1 IS to S2 IS (S3 IS is not much of an improvement).

The V610 has its advantages over the TZ1, but there are certain technical limitations (everything to do with the tiny lenses) that are not likely to be overcome with future upgrades.
