Sup all...looking to get a new camera (last I had was a canon g6) and leaning towards the sd700is now.

I want something I can take with me wherever and be able to take good quality shots in most any kinds of lighting.

Price isn't a big issue
Size would be compact, just need to be able to take it with me wherever
MP- 6+
image quality should be good (8-9 on a scale of 10)
opt zoom 3x+
some manual controls would be nice, but not that necessary as this is going to used more for point and shoot

Basically, is there anything better than the sd700is or something that can rival it?
ooor is there news of something coming up I should wait for?

thanks for the help :)

I have an SD700 and I absolutely love it. I have a few sample pictures that I posted in my thread at the Canon forum. It's very compact, very sturdy, and the pictures are just gorgeous.

As far as any rivals, there are a lot of people that fancy the Fuji F30 because of it's ISO capabilities. There are also many people who love the Lumix TZ1 because of its ultrazoom and OIS. Some others worth mentioning are maybe the Sony T30 or the Sony DSC-N1.

Personally, I'd go with the SD700. Megapixels aren't everything. As someone once said (forgot who), what cameras need are not MORE megapixels, but BETTER megapixels.

Thanks for the reply

I was looking at the fuji f30 and sony t30 also, but the canon just seems to be better than the sony and the f30 doesn't have ois which is a big selling point of the sd700 :p
