Miscellaneous

Are there particular brands you like or hate?

no, just looking for the best camera.

Are there particular models you already have in mind?

casio z750, casio z850, kodak v550

yes, i am looking for something that has good image quality, is small and portable, has good video capability, and has low shutter lag. these are my priorities.

i have been looking at the casio z750 and casio z850, as both of these have received good reviews on the sites i have visited. and they both seem to have very good video capabilities, good quality, and in mpeg-4 format so that it can take a lot of footage.

however, i have read several places that the casio z850 is not as good as the z750, in terms of image quality and video quality. i have recently read that there is a new firmware that fixes the z850's video capability and it is now better than the z850 in low-light settings and the same in better lighting conditions. but the image quality still seems to be inferior to the z750.

as for the z750, i have heard that its weak flash is a weakness, but overall seems like a great camera.

between those two i am leaning towards the z750, but i would like advice from anyone on these two cameras.

also, i have heard that the kodak v550 also has good video capabilities as far as ultra compact cameras go. you can optically zoom while shooting video, and this is the only ultra compact i have heard of that does that. however, i am worried that the image quality on the kodak v550 will not be as good as the casio z750.

i would appreciate it if anyone could give me advice on these cameras, the casio z750, z850, and kodak v550.

and if anyone could let me know about other ultra compact cameras with good image quality and good video capabilities, as well as having low shutter lags.

does anyone have any advice on the casio z1000? i was looking at canon's elph series, but was concerned about the shutter lag and the lack of mpeg-4 format video which reduces the amount of footage you can take. .

(If applicable) Do you need any of the following special features? (Wide Angle, Image Stabilization, Weatherproof, Hotshoe, Rotating LCD)

no, although image stabilization sounds like it might be a nice bonus.
