Hi... I live in the Maldives... A country made up of around a thousand islands... Just got an assignment to photograph the lives of fishermen living on remote islands... both on land and on sea... will have to live on small fishing vessels for about a week at a time... I would like some recommendation for a complete kit... including camera, lens(es), accessories, laptop, and printer... would like the cheapest options to begin with... I’m very new to this... but I was thinking... either a Nikon D70s or a Cannon EOS 350D with an Apple notebook option or a Sony DCS R1/H5 or Alpha DSLR A100 with a Viao notebook... PLS advice ASAP....

I am not sure why you link a Sony camera to the vaio laptop and the others to an apple laptop. The Sony is just a Windows computer, and so it is a choice between a Windows or Mac OS X computer.
My choice would go to the Apple laptop, but others may prefer a windows laptop.
The Sony R1 is of course a compact lighter all in one choice which will allow live preview on the LCD.
For DSLR I would either choose the Canon EOS 350D or the Nikon D50. Since I do not think you need to have much tele power (correct me if I am wrong there) I would choose a Tokina 12-24 for either, for good wide angle possibilities, and then another lens, depending on your budget.
An EF 24-70 f2.8 L for Canon or a Nikkor 28-70 f2.8 L for the Nikon would be teh best lenses, but both are expensive. The Sigma 24-70 f2.8 and Tamron 28-75 f2.8 are a lot more affordable.
Same goes for the EF-S 17-55 f2.8 IS USM for the Canon and Nikkor 17-55 f2.8 DX, they are expensive. The Canon has added bonus of IS. The Sigma 18-50 f2.8 and Tamron 17-50 f2.8 are more affordable, but may not be as good in every sense and in focus accuracy.
