I have a canon powershot 1s s3. What will be the best setting for football games? The man at sears told me that I should be able to see down into a helmet with this camera even from the stands...I can't imagine that being quite right. And also indoor action shots, like basketball. Previous pictures indoors were so dark, I figured it was the shutter speed. All help is greatly appreciated.

You are going to have to use higher shutter speeds and possibly higher ISO. Set the aperature as big as you can and play around with shutter speed and ISO.

When I shoot football pics at night with the Canon 30D, I use ISO 1600 at 1/125th second with f stop 4.

I shoot basketball at ISO 800 at 1/100th second.

Play around with low fstops and higher ISO. That should do the trick.
