Hi. I am a novice looking to buy my first camera. I was pretty set on buying a Panasonic TZ-1 until i heard great things about the Fuji F30 and its abilities indoors and at night.

Can someone show a side by side comparison between a more typical camera indoors vs the result one would get with the F30? This will help make it more clear how much the F30 helps over getting the TZ-1.

Although i have seen indoor pics with the F30, without the "before" type pics it is difficult to visually see how much improvement has taken place. Thank you in advance for your help!

I've never posted pictures on the forum before and i'm too lazy to learn when dpreview has done the work for us.

That's the fuji f30 compared to the very good canon sd700 IS at iso 800. This comparison is iso 800 and you'll see that the fuji kicks the canon in the face at this iso.

I hope dpreview doesn't get mad at me for linking to these big files but here are two pictures in full resoultion from both the tz1 and the f30 of similar subjects (a baby.) The f30 was taken at iso 800 and the tz1 at 400. You'll clearly see that the f30 performs far better at iso 800 than the tz1 does at 400 (view the images at 100%.) It just resolves so much more fine detail with less noise. Unless you need that 10x optical zoom with image stabiliztion (which makes me drool) then the f30 is your low light camera. Personally though... i'd rather have the zoom and image stabilization on the tz1 just for more compositional freedom. Most of my point and shoot pictures are never printed higher than 4x6 anyways so that lack of detail wouldn't really bother me that much (for low light stuff) but if this is your primary camera you may want to consider your options. I personally think the tz1 does better than the f30 in brighter light as in outdoor light. Far less purple fringing and it sems to have a better dynamic range (doesn't blow highlights like the f30 does.) So it depends on where most of your photography is going to be done. Ultimately the choice is yours. You've got excellent low light performance from the f30 and awesome image stabilization and far more compositional freedom (10x optical) from the tz1. So to me that's the tradeoff between the two because it's funny you should ask this question because i was kind of at an impass deciding between the two for a gift for my sister. I'm still not 100% sure what i'm going to get her cuz her birthday isn't for another few weeks but i'm still leaning towards the tz1.
