I just purchased a Panasonic TZ1 today. After loading up a few photos I have noticed a lot of noise when they are blown up. Has anyone also noticed this? I mean it isn't that big of a deal because I am not printing out pictures as large as possible, but it is annoying when I am used to a Sony DSC-W1 that had very little noise in any picture. As of right now my old Sony has a HUGE advantage over the TZ1 with image quality. I would rather have the best image possible instead of image stablization.
Just curious if anyone else is noticing noise.

Just curious if anyone else is noticing noise. The manual says if you don't like noise, Natural mode will minimize to eliminate it. Of the photos I've shot, yes, I've seen some noise, usually at higher ISOs. When it seems annoying or distracting from the image, I apply Neat Image, and it always cleans up fine.

The Sony had about the same # of pixels on a larger sensor and only 3X zoom ....I would say you are most likely correct......Its all a compromise.

I have come from a Sony dsc 40 to the TZ1.I did so having read a number of reviews including Jeff's all of which point out above average noise particularly at higher ISOs but wthout fail in general praise image quality.I agree.I have not been disappointed with the picture quality which I prefer to the Sony(and often to those produced by my S2 IS which I did not expect)Where noise is a problem as John Reed says run the image through the free software 'NeatImage' which removes noise very effectively in most cases.Unless you are blowing up a large number of your photos to A4 or above it really shouldn't be a problem.
