Hi Guys and Gals,

Just got a Panasonic Z3 after the raves on this site, I am now reading the Manual, But can anyone recommend a Up to Date book that goes through Exposure, Compistion, the ypes of photography etc.

A sort of Photo Handdbook, I looked on Amazon and they seem over a year old, and with the technology changing I want something Recent to grow old with my new camera.

Thanks

Dave

Though the technology has improved, made faster, is more accurate, etc. the basic principles are based on the same old stuff that they have always been, this stuff is the same on your latest digi' as it was when the first digital cameras came out, and most of the time dating back to when photographic cameras were first made. You're still essentially measuring the number & frequency of photons in an organised & structured way to form an image and that basic physics hasn't change ;)..

Ditto, Unless you put the camera on auto and do nothing else then a photo book is a photo book, most the modes and adjustments you have on a camera come straight from an SLR, ok there may be bits you need to miss such as film and reciprocity Failure.

With respect to good technique and tips then these do not change either.

What you need is a good general photography book, I would start with an idiots guide if you are new ‘Teach Yourself Photography’ (no insult intended I still read mine now and again), it will teach you about death of field, exposure etc in simple terms, You may then want a more in depth book or one that specialises in specific areas of photography such as close up.

Most of my books are moderately old (one or them talk's about 110, Twin Lens and Large Format) Sorry I can not recommend a recent one, If you do not get any recommendations on here I would look in a bookstore for ideas, if you find a digital one that looks good fine but do not get too hung up on one word or on the age try discount book stores also.

First you have to know what it all means. i.e. shutter priority, aperture priority, ISO, and etc. That has not changed with technology, as the same things that affected film also affect digital sensors.

I recomend reading the reviews (especially Jeffs on this site) to get more familiar with where everything is on the camera and:

http://www.shortcourses.com/bookstore/book.htm

Or

http://photography.about.com/od/basics/

You can google on basic photography and get a wealth of information for free.

The fun has just begun...
