Just recently upgraded from a s3500 to a s5600 mainly for the extra features, more zoom, video with sound and the option of setting up my own settings down the track.

However, i'm a bit dissapointed in the quality of the pics with the s5600, there alot more pixel-ly then the s3500. Its quite a noticable differance.

I was using the same settings on both cameras, 2MP, and auto everything.

The s3500 pics just looked way nicer, smooth and clear. Is this a common trait of the s5600 or have i set up something wrong...

curious to know other people experiences.

anyone?

theres not one picture i take that i dont have to edit in paintshop to get some sort of quality back.
The s3500 walked all over it....

hi, might wanna check your ISO setting. might have set it too high, hence the pixel-y pictures. ISO 200 or 400 is just about ok for everyday use:)

try reading your manual...im pretty sure you'll find something useful there

Post some sample pics from both cameras with the EXIF data attached. They should help us help you.

see with the s3500 the tread is much clearer, even under the vehicle is clear, not so with the s5600.
Any help/tips is greatly appreciated, cheers.
can post more pics/exif data if required, just thought i'd use that pic as its about the only one i have of same subject with both camera's

Well, for one thing, the ISO that was used in the S3500 pictures was 100, while the S5600 used 200 and 800. Higher ISO will degrade image quality, although the S5600's image quality at higher ISO's tends to be better than that of its competition. You said that you had both cameras on "auto everything" which seems to indicate that the S5600 will sometimes choose higher ISO's when you don't choose it yourself. Try fixing the ISO of both cameras at the same ISO so that you can make a more accurate comparison between the two. Just make sure that the shutter speed required is fast enough that you don't get blur due to subject movement or camera shake - you don't want to mistake that for a problem with image quality.

Thanks for your help, i will try manually setting the ISO on the s5600 and see how i go. i ended up selling the s3500 before i got the s5600 so cant compare shots anymore with same settings :(

ah well i can take the info you've suggested and see how i go.

cheers.
