Hey, my local camera shop has a Used Nikon 28-70mm F/2.8D ED-IF AF there selling for $525. The glass itself is perfect, I got to try it on a D200 they had charged up and its really sharp with no sings of flaws in the glass. But the outside is pretty scrached up. Its shows that it has see lots of use. The big downer for me is the focas ring and zoom ring ar not smooth, its pretty rough..
So you think its worth dealing with the rings being rough, to get my hands on some good glass for a damm fine price? And do you agree that that a damm fine price for a used lens like that?

I was told I can bring my D50 by and play with it for as long as i want in the shop. (break it I buy it)
Thats a very good price, thats more than half off! Did you ask why its so cheap, I know its used but still....
I would suggest going in and playing with it and using the rings for as long as you can. When you say "rough" what do you mean? I noticed my rings were stiff and rough when I first bought them, but loosened after a few uses. being this is used, it shouldnt have that problem. My guess would be if the glass looks fine and it takes fine pictures, why not? I dont know much about this lense, I have been saving for the 17-55 2.8 myself, but from what ive read and seen, this one is very nice aswell. Let us know what you decide, hell if you dont buy it, let me know;)

A heck of a price. You might want to contact Nikon to see what it would cost to have it checked. If the glass is good, the photos are sharp, and it auto-focuses fast and quiet... why not?;)

The 28-75 Tamron is quite a good lens if you don't want to deal with the worn out body. In fact I found the tamron to be quite impressive in AF speed overall too don't know that I'd fork out extra for nikon variant. The 17-55 DX on other hand...

That is a shame, since it is one of Nikon's best lenses. Better than the 17-55 f2.8 which loses a bit at the long end.

I agree with coldrain. I love my Sigma 24-70, but like the Tamron 28-75, it really isn't even close to the Nikkor. I still rent one when I need the best.
Scott6... you have my condolences.:(
