xD card problems

i have an olympus C-70 digital camera and a 256MB xD card which is driving me crazy right now :eek: . when I turn it on it eather tells me to power off the card or to format it. I have some good pictures in there I don't want to lose, so till now I haven't done anything cuz I don't know what to do. anybody know how I can recover the pics? and if I format it afterwards will it function normaly?

Have you tried the card in a card reader or only by connecting through the camera?

If there is just a problem with corruption on the files on the card, then formatting it in the camera should fix that. If it's a hardware problem with a defective card or camera, then you'll continue to see issues.
