just bought an R! love the image quality...but im looking for some help regarding aspect ratio of 3:2 that this camera has...all of my pics need to be saved for web via adobe photoshop cs2...if i keep the constrain properties it dous not save as 640x480 but saves as 640x421 (approx)..if I remove the constrain prop it skews the image taller to meet the 640x480...is there a way to have the cam take the pics at high res (10mb) and still have them shot at 4:3 aspect ratio?...or should I take these pics larger and crop to 4:3...and how does one do that....thanks so much
bottom line i need to know how the final image can be at 4:3...maybe without cropping or stretching
thanks

I am so sorry for trying to help you .
The R1 cannot do the aspect you wish..
As I told you in the other forum (you have posted the same question on at least 3) , the only way to get the aspect you want is to crop.
I told you how to do this using the crop tool, the marquee tool and how to set up custom crop presets.
What more do you want ?

Totally easiest way is this:
In PS change the image size to 480 height. Keep the proportions the same of course. Then the image will be more than 640 wide.
Then change canvas size, set the width to 640 pixels. Done.
Whta puzzels me though is why you need a 640x480 image, that has little to do with "the web".

well i dont actually need 640x480....I need the 4:3 ratio...i guess it can be a little larger than the 640x480...but since I need to post 9-15 shots at a time per vehicle I was asked by the website to limit it to around the 640x480 size
wont changing image size then canvas size skew the image slightly??
thanks

So what reason do you have to want 4:3? I can personally not think of any valid reason. And why don't you just try what I typed instead of asking a pointless question?

That's a little harsh... seems like an honest question since jharonis obviously doesn't know Photoshop very well. Many people confuse "image size" with "canvas size".

I'm betting that they meant "saved for web" meaning using the "save for web" feature, not necessarily for use on the web. The only application that I can think of that requires a set aspect ratio like that would be for use in video editing, especially for TV. A lot of video editing suites can't deal with images that fall outside it's expected image ratios. No, the canvas size will not skew the image, it will crop it. The same way the crop tool or the crop menu command would do, just with less interactive control.
jharonis — you need to tell people what you are doing so we can give you a better answer about what you need to do. The operation that you asked could easily be accomplished by either of the methods Sintares or coldrain suggested. If there is more to it, then you have to give more information. As far as I can tell, you have your answer and just don't want to or know how to use it.
More info = better answer.

After reading the posts in the link to Steve's forum... I have no idea what you are trying to do jharonis. There is no real reason to constrain images to any given aspect ratio. You need to tell us what you're doing and why you need 4:3 if you are still stuck after the solutions you've been given.
