The Pentax *ist DL body and basic kit sells for $550 - $100 rebate = $450. The Samsung GX-1L sells for $540. Aren't these two cameras the same thing? Is there any reason to buy the Samsung for $90 more after rebate?

They are the same camera, and I would advise getting the DL while you can, particularly the body only which drops effectively to $350 after the $100 rebate.

The samsung GX1L is a clone of pentax *IST DL2, the main difference with the original *IST DL is that both the DL2 and GX 1L have 5 AF points versus 3 of the IST DL

I had to settle for the GX-1L because I simply couldn't find any Pentax *ist DL anywhere. (local dealers). The one or two that had it was pricing it way too high, like into the $600-$700 area.
Does anyone else here own a Samsung GX dSLR?
