Red eye

I have a Canon Powershot S2 IS. I thought that if I used a slave flash it would get rid of the red eye. It did not unfortunately. I even tried lowering the flash level to the lowest and let it set off the slave flash to give the light needed. Still got red eye. I am really peeved there is no PC link or hotshoe on my camera. However are there any ways to try an get round this problem? Perhaps using some makeshift diffuser on the inbuilt flash perhaps?

You can always get rid of the red eye after you download it to your computer.
