I am looking for a camera for my business that will take good quality product photos to post on the web & that can be sent to customers for viewing by e-mail. We do use a photographer for print quality & advertising photos. Our products our usually either black or stainless steel w/ white backgrounds. I have had an old Cannon Power Shot that was great for the kids, but not so great for this type of use. I can upgrade to a refurbished Cannon Power Shot S2 for 240? I'm not sure if that will do the job or if there is a better new point & shoot that would work for this type of job? Can I do this job w/ a point & shoot or do I need an SLR? Problem is that I really don't have the time or interest to learn what I need about an SLR?

Also, any recommendations on where to get a good white background in order to set-up a small studio at our company?

Thanks for your help!

You just need proper lighting if the photos are only for the web and email. Good lighting and your current will get you further than a better camera and bad lighting.

Almost any powershot except the very first models would do for weba nd email stuff. Just learn to use low ISO, correct white balance and good enough light and you will be fine. So, what powershot do you have? and what "product" do you need to make small web/email photos of, that would need a different camera?

I have a cannon power shot s30, but the display is shot. I've contacted cannon & I can get a refurbished power shot s2 IS for $240. Just wondering if that makes sense or if I should just buy a new camera? If I should buy a new one--any recommendations. Here is our web page w/ our products www.mrpbike.com.

Thanks,
