External Flash Stops Working

I have a FZ20 and paired it with a Vivatar 285HV. Overall this combo works well, but occasionally (like last night) the flash and camera will not "talk" to each other resulting in missed shots where the flash did not trigger.

The ONLY way I have found to fix this annoying problem is to do a full reset of my camera settings...and then the flash will trigger properly again.

Any ideas why this is happening and possible solutions. I really hate missing little moments such as, oh, the cake cutting, the first dance, garter removal etc at weddings I am working at (as a DJ).

There is a flash force off setting ...it is located on the right arrow of the jog dial on the rear of the camera.......when it is forced off there is an Icon in the EVF that indicates that.

Thanks Gene. I knew I could count on you. I will check into that to see if possibly somehow the flash settings are being changed accidentally.

It's very easy to accidental hit that arrow, especially if you review photos on the camera.
