New G6 Owner with a small Question

I just bought an "Open-Box" G6 from my local Fry's Electronics, and I was just wondering, My G6 makes an unusual noise when I move the lense from wide angle to telephoto. In-fact it makes that noise when I first turn on the camera and the lense is moved out to wide-angle from it's storage posistion.

The noise is hard to discribe but here goes:...

It souds like a small fly, buzzing around a lit lightbulb. or sort of like a "wizzz" sound. Or maybe the sound of small ungreesed gears intorlocking and spinning rapidly. All of this, but on the quiet side.

And the only reason I think to be worried about this is because when I go from telephoto to wide-angle, the movement is absoluetly quiet.

I've got a brand new in-box G6 waiting for me to pick up tomarrow, I was wondering if the noise is normal or not. If it is, then fine, I'll live with it, as a "character" of my new toy. That way I don't have to bother going all the way to the store tomarrow.

if what you're describing is the same thing i'm hearing when i do the same on my g6 then i think it should be fairly normal... although i seem to hear it going both ways! or maybe you're hearing something different. i figured it to be the normal sound of the lens.

well, if you really can get a new replacement for free then i'd say, why not? i'd at least see if i can get my hands on a floor model and ask them to power it up for comparison.

I cant say i have noticed but i went from an A80 which was very noisy to the G6 which is very quiet.

I have just purchased this camera...and been to busy to even check it out...but I did read the manual yesterday. You can program the camera to three different theme "noises". One is default, one is science fiction noises and the third is animal noises. Sounds like to me you have your camera set on animal noises. Check out the manual it should be easy to set to default. :D
