i am new DSLR buyer .... did not buy anything yet
should i go nikon system or canon system ?
the problem is : our local canon dealer sell stuff way above list price and internet shopping not available from most internet sites
so if i go canon i have to tolerate canon's dealer hits
does it worth it ?

I had this delema a few months back. Took me months to decide. Im gonna be getting a canon 30D in the comming month.
My biggest factor was,..... Comfort.:p I was looking at the nikon D70 at that time, I was also considering the canon 350D. But when i held it at the store the hand grip was too small for me, and it felt clunky. thats why i was willing to pony up more money for a canon 30D instead. Personaly i think the canon sensors are a bit better than nikons, as long as youre comparing 2 of the same class DSLR's.

Your post does not make much sense. You probably actually mean that the local shop sells things for the list price, and not under it like most internet shops. And what internet site does not offer internet shopping?
I am quite sure that every internet SHOPPING site offers internet shopping.
And why is there no mention of Nikon in your post, but does the title say Nikon or Canon?

When you say the hand grip. You are referring to the right hand grip. the one with the button to take the picture?

i ment not all shopping sites offer shopping to all countries
and yes our local shops sell canons significantly above list price
example : canon s3 is camera is sold for ABOUT 560 $
AND THIS IS ONLY SMALL EXAMPLE

Get a Nikon D200 and Nikon lenses to go with it.
I believe you'll find the D200 to be everything you could ask for from any APS-C-style Canon body... and then some.
Here, take a peek.
Nikon D200 (http://www.nikonusa.com/template.php?cat=1&grp=2&productNr=25235)
Another option is the Fujifilm S3 (http://www.fujifilm.com/products/digital/lineup/s3pro/index.html)... which also uses Nikon lenses. It's a little cheaper and you wouldn't have to use Canon parts.
I do believe a lot of your problem may be "import duties" that are charged by your government of this kind of equipment. It can really play with the final price. You should see the prices in the Netherlands (Holland)! Wow! Now, that is some kind of overhead.
Ahem, where did you say you were from?

i had a Canon S2IS and had to make this decision too earlier this year. AFter reading way too many reviews, I came to the concl that both were close enough in performance that you can't go wrong, so I went with what i felt was the cheapest combo that would allow me the benefit of an SLR, while retaining a similar zoom range as my S2 and also the IS capabilities:
An 18-200VR lens (only avail on Nikon) and a D50 body (cheaper for me here in canada than 350D).
Also D50 uses SD cards which I could re-use from my S2.
Greg
I might have to go with Rhys on this one and go Nikon.
If "Canon" means you get jacked on the prices but Nikon pricing is more "normal" I'd go Nikon, even though I'm a firm Canonite.
The exception might be if you need pro results and will be doing a lot of night protography. Then, the clean High-ISO will be more critical.
Both offer lots of 3rd party lens compatibility and the normal pro-like camera features. At lower ISO, the results are pretty indistinguishable.
Also; what country is that? Must be sort of off-the-map (or North Korea) if you can't get Internet orders? If it's also hard to find paved roads, then maybe the weather sealing on the Nikon D200 will be more of a necessity (forgive me, my imagination takes over sometimes).

roads paved ,we have tall buildings ,bridges , tunnels , modern hospitals ,5 star hotels ,you will find computer and internet connection in vast majority of houses , most people own cars
we do have everything but physical addresses
that is why most online shops do not accept to ship to p.o.boxes, they require "street address"

It seems that people are trying to help you out with an internet site which would be able to ship to your country/city, but unless you actually give us that information, it doesn't look like anyone will be able to help you and you will be stuck with purchasing from your overpriced local merchants.

Aaaaaah. Yes, UPS can't do the PO box. I imagined some Saharan or Siberian outpost. :)
Well, once you receive this fine camera (whichever you choose), would love to see photos of this city ("Yeaaah? Well I don't believe you. Send a picture why don't you". Juuuuust kidding :p )
There is probably a UPS office there. Maybe they'll receive and hold it for you. A tracking number can easily serve to tell you when to go get it. Or a Hotel.

The MSRP for the S3 IS in the US is $499. Depending on where you are located and your monetary unit, that $560 may not be overpriced.

Lebannon is getting "unexpected" air mail, these days. Afterwards, I suspect the street names won't have streets to go with them.
I guess I'd consider myself lucky. :o

surely you can buy something from Saudi Arabia. They have virtually everything that the US has and even better gas pricing! :D
Also look into the Sony A100.
