The subject says it all. I am thinking of upgrading to pro because I want extra sets, mainly, but smugmug has a lot of extra features and customizability, for extra cost. I could mantain easily my own website as I do for other pages of mine, but I don't want to bother, plus bandwidth costs! I already have lots of pics on Flickr. A question, how is smugmug's community? Flickr's is great,
and seems much larger, thought that by itself means little. Well, a bit confused question, but I hope you can give me a few pointers nevertheless.

Andrea

I am an ex-smugmug user. It just didn't work for me.

What I suggest is that you use PhotoShop Elements to create a thumbnailed webpage of your photos. You needn't display them bigger than 640x480 approx. Besides, if you go bigger the chances are somebody will publish them without paying you royalties. That thumbnailed set shouldn't waste much bandwidth nor much storage space.

I'm sort of doing that at the moment with my sagephotworld website. I just need to get cracking on doing the site. At the moment I'm spending my time coding software though.

Costwise, using bandwidth and storage on your own site looks the best bet. I have one set of webspace and I put everything on that (all my sites plus ebay stuff etc). Why pay more for stuff that you already have? Besides for printing there are tons of sites that allow you to upload photos and which will send you prints by return post.

Well, I use JAlbum for albums, but the concept is the same. I am just not convinced that I want to manage a website again... Between my blog and writing adventures for RPGs my free time is very full ;)
It's true that uploading the pages and pics wouldn't require much more time than just uploading to Flickr... I'll think about it.
