Hi my first post here, but would like to kick off something started elsewhere.

After a few tests, myself and a few others have basically found a rather big issue with the Panasonic FZ20.

what is it? it can't shoot purple correctly, that simple ol colour - like the one in the smiley list over there ------------->

example: http://www.motef.com/test.jpg

the right hand side has had the red channel increased to the max in Photoshop - and NOW correctly shows the purple/red in the tins colour.

the left hand side is how the camera shoots it - whilst the table/walls are the correct colour - the tin is obviously WAY OUT.

NOTE: if you tried to take a picture of something that was actually the colour shown on the left - it would most likely come out blue!!!!!!

Bright purples/magentas come out flat purple - purple comes out blue...

yes you could edit the easy stuff in photoshop - but for pics with a lot of fine detail, purples in various areas - this would be a real chore, and not something (IMO) that should have to be done.

the question is - is this problem digital camera related - or is it specific to the Panasonic line........

help!

have you printed the photos, or do they just look this way on your screen? Your moniter may not be calibrated properly. Furthermore, I can say that I noticed this as well, and printed out some test shots. Guess what?? In my prints, the color looks fine. Don't ask me why it looks wrong on screen, but looking at the pics printed out on my home printer, and also from a pro printer, showed that the color is fine.

BTW, please don't cross post--it is in the forum rules.

The previous post addressed some of the first questions I would ask to try and remedy your problem. Is your monitor calibrated? Is what you see on screen indicative of the finished print? Are your color management settings configured correctly in photoshop? If the answer to those questions is "yes", then you may be experiencing camera metamerism. Basically, your camera's CCD does not "see" the world of color in the same manner as our eyes. The camera's sensor may be "seeing" purple instead of magenta or blue instead of purple. Since the author of the other post doesn't seem to share your problem, I would suspect that you may have your color management configured incorrectly on your computer.

Best of luck,
