I've narrowed down a new camera to either the Sony DSC T30 or Canon SD700. It seems most "expert" reviews regard these as being on roughly the same level. Yet most user reviews opt for the Canon. I was wondering if any owners of the T30 would be able to weigh in. I understand the SD700 takes better night shots and has a better zoom, but the long battery life and large lcd make the T30 hard to pass up (not to mention I like the looks of the it better). It also seems like the T30 can be found for less than the Canon (except for when Dell goes on a coupon/deal spree). Any users of either (both?) of these cameras care to give me their opinion? Thanks for any info!

Sorry, I can't answer your question exactly but I'm also shopping and I've been looking at both these cameras as well as several others. I've messed around with both of them in the store and have to say they seem very similar. I'm really dissappointed with the optical view finder on the SD 700. It's so small I had a hard time just finding it with my eye. I'm a little concerned about that sliding cover mechanism on the T30. It just doesn't feel very strong to me. Plus both of them have REALLY small buttons and I'm a pretty big guy. So i think I'm going to pass on those two models. I'm currently looking at the slightly larger cameras of the Panasonic TZ1, FX01, and LZ5 all have IS and they are cheaper too.
Check out this guy's website for a really big gallery of SD700 and T30 pictures as well as another review opinion:
