Hi guys,

I've been uploading my photos without problem for a few years now. For some reason, I can't seem to do this anymore and I can't figure out the issue!

I have an Olympus Camedia C-2. It works as per normal. The USB cord seems to be working too (when I insert or remove it from the USB port, my computer makes a sound).

Where the eyehole of the camera is, there are 2 spot lights. Usually, when the cord is connected, red and green will flash for awhile before the camera settles and there is 2 stable green lights. Now, I just get 2 flashing green lights (and the camera software displays "the device is not ready") before they both disappear (and the software will now display "device not detected).

Please help me! Thanks!

You don't say if this is a Windows or Mac PC. Either way the first thing I would do is to reset the camera to default settings. On newer Olympus cameras there is usually a menu option to do this task. If that fails to solve the issue I would remove the batteries from the camera overnight which will certainly reset the entire camera. You will know this worked when the camera's internal clock needs to be reset.

On a Windows PC you may also need to locate the camera under Start/Settings/Control Panel/System. Select the Hardware tab and clcik on Device Manager. It may show up as a Disk Drive, Storage Device or under the USB section. You may need to go to View on the menu and enable 'Show Hidden Devices'. If you manage to find the camera attempt to uninstall it within the Device Manager. This will typically force Windows to reinstall it next time you plug in the camera.

That's amazing! It actually worked. Thanks so much for the help. :)

Darn, now I wish I wasn't so hasty last night - on reading the advice of some online, I went ahead and bought one of those multi-card readers off ebay. Have no idea what I'm going to do with that now...

Well, personally, I have always used a card reader since going digital many years ago. At first it was because the cameras were mostly serial and readers were generally faster. Now I do it for convience. I tend to consume several gigs of cards on any given outing. I see no reason to hope that my camera battery doesn't die mid-transfer, possibly corrupting a card of photos. Also, why open and close that little door or power cycle the camera just to change cards.

I have a question that partly connects to the title of this thread and partly doesn't, so I'm assuming it's okay for me to post it here...

I just bought the Olympus Stylus 710 yesterday and I'm very pleased with it except that I absolutely cannot get the cover off the place where the USB cord plugs into the camera. I have no idea what I'm supposed to do -- I'm not sure if it's something I'm doing or if it's just a camera malfunction. If anyone has any idea what I'm talking about, I'd really appreciate a response.

Thanks. :)
