Hello,
My wife and I have a baby on the way, so we are in the market for a new camera. My wife's old camera is a Sony (from around 2002), it takes forever to take a picture, so we definitely need to upgrade before the baby comes. Here is my criteria:
- Budget: <= $500
- Size: compact, but doesn't need to be the world's smallest
- Mega pixel: probably >= 6 would be fine
- Optical zoom: standard 3-4X is fine
- Image quality: of course 10, or close to it
- Manual controls: nice to have, but not required
- General Usage: everyday snapshots, both indoor and out. Would like camera to have good performance in low light situations. I want the camera to be fast, I don't want to wait forever between pictures.
- Print Size: the vast majority will be 4x6, sometimes 5x7 and 8x10
- Indoor/Low light pictures: Yes
- Action shots: Not really
I have been looking around, and the Canon SD700 IS looks promising. According to cnet.com it is pretty good in low light situations, and takes pictures in 1.9 secs with the flash. It also has an image stabilizer. I also read that this camera produces a lot of red eye.
I am also interested in Sony, maybe the DSC-W100 or DSC-T30.
I am open to other brands as well if any of you feel they are superior.
Thanks for your help,
Mark
