Seriously, I just read this:

Sony plans to produce 80,000 of its A-series SLR cameras per month, according to the Manichi Daily News. The camera is expected to cost between $100 and $150.

Interesting. Sounds like Sony's normal business practices. Rush in, beat everyone out, then force you to do things their way. It would be cool if there were some sort of introductory DSLR that was at a consumer level price point... or even more importantly at a student price point... but that smacks of sony just trying to mess with the established camera manufacturers simply because sony has TONS of money to throw at it... microsoft anyone? heh Glut the market and drive the little guys out of business.

Time will tell... I'm curious what sony thinks they're doing anyway... lots of mystery and ambiguity surrounding their DSLRs... a little too much considering what they finally released wasn't revolutionary... nice... but not end all/be all of DSLRs.

doesnt mean that as consumers we will pay that
production cost=$100
cost at shop=$1000
sonys profit per camera=$900:D

I think you'll find it works more like this:

production cost $100
plus Sony markup
plus tax plus shipping/handling
plus wholesaler markup plus retailer markup plus tax
to be $1000

I think whoever wrote the article left a zero off those prices...we've all seen it happen before...;)

I went to the Sony USA site and added to my cart the A100 as if I were going to buy it. The body price is $900. Then there is the lens cost.

Sony® α (alpha) DSLR-A100 Camera Body
$899.95

On the Reviews and Info section of this site for the A100 it says:
Price Range: $999.00 - $999.99 from 4 Sellers
